Today we were invited * to see Tabby McTat live on stage at Mew theatre Cardiff.
As soon as we pulled into the car park Z was super excited and couldn’t wait to get out of the car! We got our tickets and eagerly got to our seats.
I’m not familiar with the Julia Donaldson story, it’s not one I’ve read, to be truthful even after watching the production I wasn’t quite sure of the story!
A quick look online and it’s of a cat who’s best friend is a busker named Fred. One day they get separated the cat goes on to enjoy a life with a lady cat and have kittens but missed life with Fred so goes in search of him.
The stage was a simple set up which for children I think is great. There wasn’t really any costume changes other than a doctors jacket. There were plenty of songs and audience interaction.
The first twenty minutes Z really enjoyed he was standing up and sounded like he was trying to sing along. But he kept catching the lady in front so he had to sit down. He still enjoyed himself as all he done was giggle. I had one eye on him one on the stage, because he was so excited he was then kicking the seat.
Some songs some children knew so I’m guessing that these are in the book.
The show is aimed at younger children and I think it’s a good show to get this age group into theatre, there was singing, clapping, laughing, a bit of ‘he’s over there’, from the audience and even some magic tricks!
It’s running time is about one hour which is just enough for small children and a great detour if you’re in Cardiff shopping for those last back to school items!
Tabby McTat is running until September 1st 2019 11am and 2pm and you can book tickets here prices start from £12.
* I was gifted my tickets in exchange for an honest review, opinions are my own.
